Who are we?

The Fédération des intervenantes en petite enfance du Québec (FIPEQ) is a federation affiliated with the Centrale des syndicats du Québec (CSQ). It is composed of member organizations, including the Alliances des intervenantes en milieu familial (ADIM) and the Syndicats des intervenantes en petite enfance (SIPE), whose members work in childcare centres as employees or as home childcare providers.

In a nutshell, the FIPEQ

  • Is the only union federation that exclusively represents childcare practitioners 
  • Has the greatest expertise in the childcare network
  • Was founded in 1993
  • Has close to 15,000 members
  • Includes 21 affiliated regional unions

Our role

  • Formulate union demands
  • Act as a spokesperson during negotiations with the government and employer associations
  • Guide and coordinate a range of action plans
  • Promote collaboration between organizations
  • Call for support for continual improvements to the quality of Québec's childcare services network
  • Aim for the greatest possible cohesiveness among our local unions

Our objectives

  • Promote and develop the economic, professional and societal interests of staff working in childcare services and defend the right to associate, the right to free collective bargaining and freedom of union action
  • Establish a union and professional environment that is free of sexual and psychological harassment
  • Revitalize union affairs through the sharing of resources and ideas
  • Represent our unions at the provincial level, guide and coordinate their representation at the decision-making bodies of the CSQ and represent them wherever their interests and rights are debated
  • Guide, through coordination with the CSQ, the activities of our local unions with regard to negotiations, the application of the collective agreement and the group agreement, training and union organization
